We walk the mountain ranges in the Mournes and Cooleys. We like to call ourselves ‘the social club that walks’. Our walks are on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. Each year we also organise the Wee Binnian Walking Festival. Our club has a mixed age membership ranging at the most recent count from 18 years (the lower age limit) to over 70 years and can cater for the wide range of fitness levels within the 80+ membership.

Four different grades of walk are offered on each club outing ranging from a very strenuous challenge classification (15-18k – 900m ascent – very fast pace – 6 hours) through strenuous (Grade 1) which is a moderate to fast pace through to fairly strenuous (Grade 2) at a moderate pace through to moderate (Grade 3 ) (8k – 600m ascent – slow to moderate pace – 5 hours) which should be within the reach of any hill walker.

To encourage aspiring hill walkers a supervised training programme is also on offer. Club outings are on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month meeting in Bridge Street Carpark, Newry at 10.00 am and to ensure your safety on the hills there is a pool of 27 leaders with both mountain skills training and mountaineering first-aid.
