–Training for Leaders

We often talk about “competence“ as a leader .  The HSE recognises four ways of being deemed competent
These are :

*      Holding a relevant qualification ( e.g. ML , WGL for Hill-Walking )

*      Holding an equivalent qualification (Guides Association Walking Scheme /ELB Awards

*      Suitable in-house training /assessment such as training provided by an organization or club

*      Competence through experience .

Walking group Leader Award
This award is for leaders of walking groups in summer conditions in non -mountainous hilly terrain such as upland , bog , moor , hill .  The scheme helps to develop the necessary skills , self sufficiency and experience for all weather conditions . To complete the scheme you must register with MLTNI and join one of the mountaineering councils. You then fulfill the pre-training requirements , attend a three day training course , fulfill pre-assessment requirements and finally attend a three day assessment course .
Cost
.  Training Course £ 186 ; Assessment Course £ 197

Mountain Leader Award
Mountains are usually remote
and exposed to harsh and unpredictable weather They are therefore hazardous for novice walkers , the ML course is designed to help responsible leaders to operate in mountainous terrain in summer conditions .  These courses teach group management skills , ability to deal with mountain hazards , navigational skills for all conditions and increase environmental awareness .  There is an expedition element to the scheme
To complete the scheme you must register with MLTNI
and join one of the mountaineering councils. You then fulfill the pre-training requirements , attend a six day training course , fulfill pre-assessment requirements and finally attend a five day assessment course .
Cost .  Training Course £ 365 ; Assessment Course £300

ramblers based on needs .  This is usually one day and covers areas such as:
